Sharp, Hewlett-Packard and 9 other companies have joined together to petition the FCC not to eliminate a July 1, ’06 set-top integration ban that would require all new set-tops after that date to have a CableCARD. Cable has asked the FCC to eliminate the ban or at least postpone it by 18 months.
