AFL is opening a new research and development facility in Lowell, Massachusetts, to expand its product offerings for its Fiber Optic Test and Inspection Equipment Division. The new 14,500-sq-foot R&D facility features optics and electronics laboratory development spaces, as well as customer meeting and training facilities for up to 65 engineers and professionals involved in development of fiber optic test and inspection equipment.

AFL has plans to expand its Test and Inspection Division research and development staff by more than 50 percent in 2011. AFL will continue to maintain the division’s existing 30,000-foot facility and operations located in Belmont, NH.
