42 | A CARROLL OF LAUGHS
Why Him? What’s not to like about Carroll? A member of our Programming Hall of Fame, Carroll is one of cable’s most approachable execs and a press favorite. Journalists are hardly his sole admirers, though. In April, AMC Networks re-signed him through 2016. It’s no wonder: Carroll has expanded the slate of original offerings on all four of AMC Networks’ nets (AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and WE tv) and broken viewer records on every single one of them while attracting a bevy of new advertisers. In 2012, he also oversaw the growth of AMC Nets to more than 25 countries. And don’t even get us started on all the accolades and accomplishments for the nets he oversees: Just for starters, how about 34 Primetime Emmy noms this year and the highest rated drama in basic cable history with “The Walking Dead”? Yeah, we’d re-up his contract too…
Apple or Samsung? Sony Trinitron.
Beatles or The Rolling Stones? U2.
My peers would be surprised to learn that I… am really Dick Whitman.
The other subject I wish I’d picked for my college major: Authentication 101.
Most embarrassing moment: Why would I ever reveal that to an industry trade publication?
The biggest lesson I learned from my kid(s) this year was… ”Dad, take it down to a 5. You’re at intensity-level 10 and I’m not in the mood.”
Dish I can make and that would impress a celebrity chef: Scallops on a bed of bacon and lentils. ?
