Michael Angelakis
Years in Cable: 20
Education: BA, Babson; OPM, Harvard
Why Him? As the top financial executive at Comcast, Angelakis was already the ultimate bookkeeper before and during the NBCU merger. But in late November, Comcast elevated this trusted exec to Vice Chairman and CFO, extending his contract through 2016. That came with a $4.5 million signing bonus, by the way. It’s no mystery why Brian Roberts wanted to lock Angelakis into the Comcast matrix: He’s simply one of the best, keeping a watchful eye over the MSO’s $54 billion combined revenue of Comcast and NBCU (pro forma, 2010). As if that’s not enough, Angelakis oversees all corporate development, strategic planning, investor relations, internal reporting, external reporting, taxation, and other financial administrative matters at Comcast—and that’s enough work for an army of executives. This guy’s well worth the price tag.
Keeping it Real: Angelakis serves on the national board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, an organization with which Comcast teams on a mentoring initiative.
Year Ahead: With the merger far enough behind him, Angelakis can exhale—but only a little. ?
