NBC News Talent Tamron Hall Proves Passion for ID's 'Deadline' Is Personal

It’s not every TCA tour that begins with a pair of emotional panels, but after the heavy “Against the Odds” opener, NBC News talent Tamron Hall got choked up during her session, too. She was prompted to share some details for the first time, saying she “failed” her sister, who eventually was brutally murdered. Hall discovered her sibling repeatedly with a man who had abused her (the sister). Hall kicked her sister “and the monster…out of my house” instead of embracing her and dealing with domestic violence.

Investigation Discovery chief Henry Schleiff feels it’s Hall’s passion for and experience with crime that comes across in “Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall” on ID. After her weekday job on NBC and MSNBC, Hall does field reporting on weekends for Deadline: Crime. “It’s important for me to look [interview subjects] in the eye,” she said. The show “is therapy for me.” Hall’s unsure “if I will be brave enough” to do her sister’s story. “I hope to one day.”

High-flying Investigation Discovery will produce 600 hours of new content in ’14, chief Henry Schleiff said. On the entertainment side that will include Wendy Williams hosting “Forget U,” about jilted lovers (premieres Valentine’s Day) and “Secret Lives of Stepford Wives” (premiere TBD). Critics were intrigued by news of a new installment of “The Injustice Files” which will focus on sundown towns, places in the U.S. where African Americans aren’t allowed to walk around after dark or even live.
