SOLiD Technologies announced that it has succeeded in development of an advanced WDM-PON system.

The system developed has the capability of delivering 16 WDM channels of GigE over a single fiber core up to more than 40km. Unlike the conventional WDM-PONs, such as injection-locking and reflective semi-conductor optical amplification (RSOA) where external seed light sources are used, this system uses the tunable lasers with wavelength stabilization scheme.

"The significance of this development is that this system enables service providers to meet the customers’ greater bandwidth demands at the CapEx comparable to EPON and GPON as well as reduction in OpEx resulting from additional savings in the number of access fibers needed," Seung Hee Lee, CEO of SOLiD Technologies Inc., said in a statement.

SOLiD Technologies will be exhibiting the product at Broadband World Forum Europe 2009, September 7-9, 2009, in Paris, France.
