Rovi's TotalCode Preps Content for Streaming
Rovi launched TotalCode, a new line of encoding solutions with advanced capabilities. Built on its MainConcept codec technology and including support for the latest adaptive streaming codecs, TotalCode is designed for post-production facilities and enterprise-class digital content providers such as broadcasters, cable operators and digital storefront operators.
The TotalCode solution features a scalable, server-distributed encoding architecture and supports a wide range of standards-compliant streams for digital distribution and broadcast platforms, including Rovi-powered entertainment stores. In addition, a flexible client-side control is provided via command-line, Web client or integration into a custom application. TotalCode will be available through Rovi-authorized resellers by the end of October.
In other news, Rovi is working with Broadcom to integrate its recently unveiled DivX Plus Streaming technology into Broadcom’s System-on-a Chip (SoC) platforms for set-top boxes and connected Digital TVs. DivX Plus Streaming offers support for 1080p video resolution, subtitles, as well as a range of smooth trick-play capabilities that have historically only been associated with Blu-ray Discs. DivX Plus Streaming complements the advanced digital entertainment feature set of Broadcom’s platforms and is designed to enable service providers and consumer electronics manufacturers to deliver a full-featured over-the-top movie and TV entertainment experience.
Rovi also announced the availability of an updated version of its MainConcept Codec Software Development Kit (SDK) Version 9 for developers to take advantage of the latest codec and network streaming technologies.
