MRV Communications Inc. says its Optical Communications Systems Division (OCS) has enhanced its Pro-Vision Service Management Solution to allow users to more effectively manage next-generation services via MRV’s OptiSwitch family of Carrier Ethernet products and optical transport Lambda Driver and Fiber Driver elements.

The enhanced Pro-Vision solution, dubbed Pro-Vision 2.0, adds such benefits as shorter time-to-market for new services; better scalability and resiliency; and simplified operational efficiencies in managing small, large and complex networks. “Additionally, Pro-Vision 2.0 supports recently defined Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) specifications for Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) to enable differentiated services over managed and interconnected global Ethernet networks,” the company says.

Here’s how it works: Pro-Vision 2.0 combines a self-service Web portal for reporting real-time and historical performances, offering a network tool for managing MEF CE 2.0 services. The self-service Web portal gives service providers’ customers visibility into customer-specific Ethernet services and end points; Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance data; Operational, Administrative and Maintenance (OAM) status; bandwidth utilization; fault conditions; and more via interactive and dynamic real-time dashboards.

Customers reportedly can design the portal to reflect their own brands, and they can view service performance on their own at any time from any secured Internet connection. Pro-Vision 2.0 also offers an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) that “saves time and eliminates human error found in Command Line Interface (CLI) scripting,” MRV notes.

In addition, Pro-Vision 2.0’s automated zero-touch provisioning allows for automatic device turn-up, discovery, configuration, software upgrades, backup, restore, database synchronization, as well as offline provisioning of devices and services.
