Partners Team For Wi-Fi Interworking Solution
Accuris Networks is working with Acme Packet on developing what they say will be the first Wi-Fi mobile interworking solution that will allow wireless carriers to extend network coverage and network capacity to Wi-Fi.
The solution also could provide carrier-grade security while offering value-added services, even when users offload to Wi-Fi networks. The solution currently is being trialed with Tier One carriers in North and South America, and it will be showcased in the Accuris Networks booth at next week’s CTIA show in New Orleans.??
Here’s how it works: According to Accuris and Acme, operators will be able to use existing packet data services, including integration with existing charging, policy and provisioning infrastructure, when their users are on a Wi-Fi network. Acme Packet’s Net-Net Security Gateway (SG) helps ensure secure data and voice services while Accuris Network’s AccuROAM platform authenticates end users as they travel between 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks.??
The cellular-to-Wi-Fi/LTE interworking gateway also includes the following tools:
>> Fully integrated Wi-Fi offload and roaming incorporating support for secure tunneled packet data core interworking with any smartphone (client-based) or with any Wi-Fi access point (client-less);
>> Support service or application-specific tunneling enable non-tunneled traffic breakout at Wi-Fi access point;? and
>> Voice and messaging over Wi-Fi, and fixed mobile convergence support for additional offload cost savings and service offerings.?
