InterDigital Inc. says it demo’d the world’s first live, over-the-air solution to provide Wi-Fi access supported in dynamically selected TV White Space (TVWS) spectrum channels. Completed last week at the IEEE DySPAN 2012 conference in Bellevue, Wash., the demo featured TVWS geolocation identification via integration with TVWS database pioneer Spectrum Bridge Inc., as well as dynamic over-the-air sensing of TVWS spectrum availability in collaboration with Shared Spectrum Inc. According to InterDigital, its Dynamic Spectrum Management (DSM) technology “is the only TVWS solution capable of aggregating up to four non-contiguous TVWS channels to provide up to 40Mbps throughput. As TVWS channel availability or conditions change, DSM will dynamically adjust to mitigate interference and thus maintain user sessions”…Hybrid-TV and connected-home solutions provider Entone Inc. is touting its Kamai 500 Hybrid Media Player this week at the TelcoTV show. Powered by Entone’s FusionTV platform, the Kamai 500 Series’ compact design includes a full set of high-performance features and has twice the processing speed and half the power consumption of other streaming devices. Its optional off-air tuner can help eliminate retransmission fees and reduce network bandwidth demand, Entone adds, and it provides such networking options as carrier grade pre-802.11ac Wi-Fi (5.4GHz) for whole-home wireless HD video distribution. Kamai also supports Adaptive Bit-Rate (ABR) streaming to help ensure uninterrupted video delivery across the Internet and various last-mile networks.
