NYC-area business Ethernet provider Optimum Lightpath is expanding its managed services product portfolio to include a managed, flat-rate Wi-Fi offering with no upfront costs…Semiconductor maker Broadcom Corporation unveiled new AutoGrEEEn Plus technology dubbed the BCM54210E PHY family, which it says is the world’s smallest-footprint, lowest-power, single Gigabit PHY that delivers as much as 70-percent savings in operating power…Texas-based NTS Inc. connected its first fiber customer in Plainview, further expanding its “PRIDE” fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) network. This ongoing fiber buildout, when completed, is expected to reach 19 new communities bringing the Company’s total FTTP passings to approximately 50,000, funded using a portion of approximately $100 million in federal stimulus funding…Small-cell maker Mindspeed Technologies Inc. co-developed a customized baseband processor with SpiderCloud Wireless featuring software, self-organizing and scalable system features by SpiderCloud. The SpiderCloud Wireless Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) system uses SpiderCloud’s software stack that includes its own physical layer software (PHY) implementation on Mindspeed’s system-on-chip (SoC). The self-organizing E-RAN delivers 3G coverage and capacity to as many as thousands, using any existing Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) for backhaul and enterprise services integration, with full mobility and cell-to-cell handoff and synchronization with the operator’s macro wireless network…The Small Cell Connect solution from Tango Networks is powered by the company’s Small Cell Services Exchange software, establishing secure connectivity and guaranteed interworking between small cells, enterprise Unified Communications (UC) and PBX systems, and mobile network elements. Once deployed, enterprise users can deploy integrated voice mail, short-digit dialing, mobile call recording, and mobile presence on any mobile device and over virtually any network, the company says. In related news, Tango Networks joined the Small Cell Forum…A new technology known as Fast Light that reportedly can help service providers reduce fiber-faulting time from hours to minutes, is being launched at ECOC 2012. The new technology has been developed by R&D group UTEL, which claims experience in communication systems, copper test access, optical fiber test access, test head, OTDR and network design…Purpose-built for enterprise networks, Tellabs says its new Mini ONTs reduce cabling requirements and exposure to damage or theft, with no ONTs sitting on or under desks; minimize the need for space in the communication closet; eliminate fiber jumpers and desk/wall mounts; and require no power or battery back-up at the desktop because they’re remotely powered from the communications closet. A single fiber provides voice, video and data services, and the solution delivers Tellabs’ All-Secure PON for high security, with the fiber terminated in the wall outlet…IntelePeer, Neustar, Sonus Networks, Swisscom and ZTE Corporation joined the Open Visual Communications Consortium (OVCC), a group of service and solution providers creating the blueprint to deliver high-quality video collaboration that connects any vendor, any network and any device anywhere. Comments OVCC President Andrew McFadzen, “OVCC members have announced that the first wave of OVCC-compliant services will launch in 2012.
