The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) formally adopted SCTE 184 and SCTE 186, the first two standards for energy management in the cable industry. SCTE 184 establishes recommended practices for energy management, while SCTE 186 defines common environmental and sustainability requirements for equipment within those facilities. Customers can join meetings via the Internet from desktop/laptop and select mobile devices using the Cisco Jabber Video for TelePresence; Polycom RealPresence Mobile; LifeSize ClearSea from Logitech; and other standards-based video clients using Wi-Fi hot spots, 3G, 4G/LTE wireless connections…Summit Infrastructure Group LLC, a Va.-based custom network solutions and bandwidth infrastructure provider, formally opened its doors today, specializing in dark fiber infrastructure…IEEE just published two IEEE 802.11 amendment standards: IEEE 802.11aa-2012 supports more robust audio and video streaming for IEEE 802.11 applications, and IEEE 802.11ae-2012 improves network performance by prioritizing management frames sent on an IEEE 802.11 wireless link. Both are available for purchase here…The vCapture service from Miami-based Vera Networks enables VoIP providers to locate and help resolve call issues. The cloud-based service is a SIP capture solution capable of storing “massive amounts” of SIP signaling data, which then allows for retrieval of actual call information long after an event occurred, the company claims.
