Telefonica UK, which operates the O2 brand, will use Ruckus Wireless SmartCell gear to supply high-capacity small cell products for high-speed wireless services being deployed throughout London. Already deployed in such central London areas as Trafalgar Square, Parliament Square, Leicester Square, Regent Street and Oxford Street, Ruckus SmartCell 8800s provide free Wi-Fi to anyone. Regarding cost-effective backhaul, Telefonica UK says it meshes traffic over 5 GHz Wi-Fi mesh links between nodes using Ruckus Smart Mesh technology…According to Broadcom, its BCM3472 is the industry’s first fully integrated 40nm Dual ISDB-T receiver chipset, and it’s now being deployed in the Latin American DTT market. The new chip can be combined with Broadcom set-top box SoCs to launch Hybrid TV – digital terrestrial broadcast combined with advanced pay-TV services…Vimond Media Solutions says RiksTV, reportedly Norway’s largest DTT operator, will deploy the Vimond Media Platform and associated Vimond Professional Services to distribute on-demand content to Norwegian audiences over the Internet as a supplement to regular DTT transmissions. RiksTV will launch a hybrid DTT- and OTT-capable set-top box to deliver supplementary content over the Internet, and it will use the Vimond Media Platform to manage workflows for distributing live and on-demand content.
