DOCSIS 3.1 engines, in CableLabs’ own words, “have been running hot” since the start of the year. With the standard rapidly maturing, vendors have accelerated their product development, Belal Hamzeh, dir of broadband evolution wrote in a blog post Mon. Since the 1st official DOCSIS 3.1 equipment interoperability event last Dec, 4 more interoperability events have been completed. The next one is in Sept. Hamzeh said cable modem vendors, cable modem termination system vendors and test equipment vendors have participated in the program. In addition, cable ops are prepping their networks for DOCSIS 3.1 readiness through field testing and trials. “Early results show that the utilization of high order DOCSIS 3.1 modulation schemes will significantly increase network efficiency,” Hamzeh wrote. In light of the progress, CableLabs has started the process for DOCSIS 3.1 product certification submissions.
