Spirent Communications plc is buying Frederick, Md.-based Metrico Wireless Inc. for a “cash consideration” of $52 million. Metrico’s cloud-based Testing as a Service solutions offer end-to-end testing under real-world conditions on live networks, measuring QoE of devices and services regarding voice, data, video, battery, location and application performance. Notes Spirent CEO Bill Burns, this purchase “brings together our device performance test strength in the lab with Metrico’s field-based, subscriber-level focus. The result is an unparalleled end-to-end test portfolio, allowing our customers to increase subscriber satisfaction and loyalty while reducing time to market, as well as their operational costs”…Verizon tapped Motorola Mobility as a key DRM supplier to help secure its FiOS Flex View multiscreen content service using Moto’s SecureMedia Encryptonite ONE HLS+. Verizon’s Flex View lets FiOS customers buy or rent more than 25,000 on-demand titles, and then watch them on their TVs, PCs and mobile devices…ARRIS Group Inc. will be using the MxL265 and MxL267 Full-Spectrum Capture (FSC) digital cable front-end receivers from MaxLinear Inc. in its new family of DOCSIS 3.0 customer premises equipment (CPE)…Digital video provider Avail-TVN will feed content to Google Fiber TV subs in Kansas City, making content available from studio, broadcast and cable (click here for more information)…IPTV/OTT solutions maven Amino Communications says its A140/A540 set-top boxes (STBs) now will include a Wi-Fi USB dongle from Celeno Communications, a provider of Wi-Fi chipsets and software for HD multimedia home-networking apps. The device reportedly “transforms the STB or TV into a video-grade Wi-Fi connected device to ensure plug-and-play, self-install simplicity”…In related Celeno news, Jensen Scandinavia will use Celeno’s CL1830 video-grade Wi-Fi technology to power the KooBrick Wi-Fi router that streams multiple and simultaneous HD IPTV video wirelessly and provides high-speed data to a range of wireless devices…Amdocs supported MetroPCS’ VoLTE launch with its CES billing, mediation and provisioning solutions (operated under a full managed services model) and its network control solutions, including the Home Subscriber Server and Policy Controller.
