NetComm Wireless launched its new Smart Hub 4G with Canada’s TELUS, with Wi-Fi speeds as fast as 300 Mbps while also offering a portable online phone service using standard analog phones. The two say temporary office setups, mobile businesses and subs without a fixed connection are targets, as the Smart Hub offers an alternate fixed line connection via Ethernet WAN while supporting business continuity with automatic failover to 4G in the case of fixed line failure. Other features include quad-band HSPA+ (within coverage areas); HSPA+ to 21 Mbps downlink; two voice ports (circuit-switched); Ethernet LAN 10/100; Wi-Fi (802.11n, backward compatible with 802.11b/g); Ethernet WAN; and advanced WEP, WPA and WPA2 wireless security and VPN pass-through support for secure connections over the public cellular network…SaskTel in Saskatchewan will use CloudSentry, the latest platform offering from CloudShield Technologies (a wholly owned SAIC subsidiary), to bolster its advanced security posture across its networks.  The platform works in line in real time to control network traffic at multi-gigabit speeds, and CloudShield says will work closely with SaskTel to implement and maintain CloudSentry protection to propagate best practices…As of this morning, Hughes Telematics now belongs to Verizon; the new owner will use the group to “accelerate growth through the delivery of advanced automotive and fleet telematics and machine-to-machine services.” Verizon is keeping the existing management team and will operate the new unit as a subsidiary and as part of the Verizon Enterprise Solutions group, headquartered in Atlanta…Dutch provider Ziggo signed a multi-year licensing, support and maintenance contract to implement NetCracker’s Smart Revenue Solutions. Ziggo will use the new BSS platform to update and adapt its core systems to support new services…Belden Inc.’s Telecast Fiber Systems brand inked a distribution agreement with Bexel, a global provider of broadcasting technology and equipment. As a platinum-level distributor, Bexel will “promote, sell and provide technical support for the full range of Telecast Fiber Systems’ fiber optic solutions for broadcast production.” Bexel also will provide a field inventory of high-run products to enable Telecast Fiber Systems to meet expedited delivery times…TI Broadcast Solutions Group, a consultancy in video-centric communication solutions, will re-sell Net Insight’s solutions for all IP networking requirements. Net Insight’s Nimbra MSR platform “will enable TI Broadcast Solutions Group’s customers, which include corporations, state and federal government agencies, universities, professional organizations, and the religious/worship market, to deliver 100-percent QoS for digital video and network integrity for data,” Net Insight says.
