Targeting the higher end of cable residential broadband market, network vendor Calix launched a new fiber service that allows ops to offer gigabit broadband through DOCSIS Provisioning of GPON (DPoG) technology. TX-based Grande Communications is the 1st cable MSO to deploy the service. The Calix E7-2 ESAP and 700GE family of optical network terminals aim to provide the flexibility and scalability for Grande to efficiently provide ultra fast broadband speeds, while the Open Link Cable service would allow the provider to use its existing DOCSIS operational model and align it with future DPoE standards that are currently in development.
