AT&T scored agreements with 2 NC cities to bring gigabit broadband to Durham and Winston-Salem. The agreements stemmed from a NC Next Generation Network initiative, which is comprised of cities, universities and local businesses working to develop broadband networks in the state. Under the deal, the telco will provide U-verse with GigaPower over a fiber network with speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Further U-verse expansion in the state was planned for the rest of the year. The service is currently available in Raleigh, Cary, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Asheville and surrounding areas.
