Time Warner chief financial and admin officer John Martin will become the next CEO of Turner on Jan 1, replacing Phil Kent. Kent will serve as Turner’s chmn for a transition period next year.

Time Warner chmn/CEO Jeff Bewkes praised Kent’s 10-year tenure, saying he has driven much of TWX’s recent success. “At Phil’s initiation, he and I agreed that now is the right time to announce the next generation of leadership, and I am pleased that he will serve as chairman,” Bewkes said in a statement.

Before assuming his current role in 2008, Martin was evp, CFO at Time Warner Cable. Time Warner plans to announce Martin’s successor in the coming weeks. More in tonight’s CableFAX Daily.
