There’s a major restructuring of CNN Digital in the works, reports The Washington Post. And while it will result in about 50 layoffs, 200 new positions are being created in the areas of audience development and analytics, mobile product, off-platform programming and the video experience–to name a few listed in a memo to employees. The move comes at a time when companies are adjusting to a major shift in how consumers digest news: these days it’s all about mobile video consumption.

CNN Digital is “embarking on a strategic restructuring,” according to a note this morning from Andrew Morse, executive vice president of editorial, CNN U.S. & general manager of CNN Digital Worldwide. As journalists have learned all too well over the past decade or so, that term – “restructuring” – often means “people are out of a job.”
