Doctor Who Season 7 – BBC America
Celebrating a show that has miraculously survived 50 years on the air certainly isn’t a risky move. But the truth is that BBC’s Doctor Who franchise—now alive and well both in Britain and here in the states through BBC America—has simply captured the imagination of multiple generations with its time-traveling, identity-shifting adventurer who seems constantly in peril. The 11th Doctor, played masterfully by Matt Smith, has managed to keep things interesting by continuing the tradition of staying (usually) one step ahead of the bad guys. With Smith stepping down and Peter Capaldi taking over as The 12th Doctor, it’s an exciting transition period for a show at the top of its game. If history is any guide, it will stay there. Of course, history is quite malleable, now isn’t it?
Honorable Mentions
Mermaids: The New Evidence – Animal Planet – The pseudo-mockumentary format irritated some critics, but if you truly thought this was a real documentary, well… we have a sand bridge to sell you. All in good fun.
Warehouse 13 – Syfy – It’s the hit that keeps on giving us more artifacts and historical knick-knacks to build stories around—and we’re not sure the creative minds behind this enjoyable show will ever run out.
