It’s been a packed year since Staffieri and his team were able to close the acquisition of Canadian competitor Shaw, and some of the biggest wins have come on the network side of the business. In February, Rogers teamed up with Ericsson to conduct what it called the first successful test of 5G network slicing in Canada, and the operator plans to use network slicing this year to offer first responders priority access to its national 5G network. Staffieri is also overseeing an effort to use the technology to separate fixed and mobile traffic on the network and expand the company’s 5G Wireless Home Internet service to more rural Canadian communities.
