Covering an event that involves a 70-mile wide line crossing 14 states along 3 time zones and travelling at 1600 MPH is a feat with which many network sports divisions would struggle. Yet Encompass Digital Media tackled the task with strong coordination and a clear joy for the amount of public interest and engagement the U.S. solar eclipse of 2017 offered. Coordinating satellite time, broadcast trucks, uncooperative weather, and an unexpectedly high amount of livestream viewers (36 MM!), the broadcast was a triumph, promoting much needed love for science and discovery across the nation.
