Hall’s storied career culminated with induction into the 2025 class of Cable TV Pioneers. She began her journey in 1985 as a Customer Service Representative for Austin Cablevision, eventually rising to VP, Operations as the company transitioned into Time Warner Cable. Hall has been with Mediacom for more than a decade, having overseen the growth of its footprint while upgrading its network, where Mediacom hopes to deliver multi-gig and symmetrical speeds to one million homes by the end of 2026.
What part of your job would surprise people the most? While all VPs of Technical Operations are involved in the day-to-day business, I think it would surprise people that I spend two or three weeks a month traveling to tech centers throughout our 22-state footprint to meet with technicians and our local management. I believe getting in front of the team to hear firsthand what we can do differently or better to make their lives easier has been one of the best investments we have done for the team and our customers.
What’s a routine or ritual that keeps you grounded? I learned early in my career a couple of valuable lessons. The first one was to not get too worked up about anything as if it isn’t going to matter in a week, a month or year from now, it’s probably not worth getting upset about so stay calm and work through it. The second was to do more listening than talking. People have good ideas or want to express their concerns or issues and while we cannot always give people what they want, if they feel they were heard they will be more understanding and cooperative.
What’s something you’ve learned from the next generation entering the workforce? I think one of the things I really appreciate about the next generation is that they are into experiencing the world while they are young. We grew up with the direction to get a job/career to save money for family, home and retirement. The younger generation does this as well but still makes time to go out and enjoy travel and other experiences. They are much more focused on a life-work balance than my generation.
The industry is transforming quickly—how are you preparing your teams (or yourself) for what’s next? I’ve been in the cable industry for many years and the constant change and evolution of the business has been one of the things that many of us thrive on. The shift from associating the HSD equipment from the customer to the home to increase the ease and speed of installation is very exciting.
