Last year was a year of growth for Altice, and Stephens was a main driver of the evolution in his role overseeing the company’s products that cater to the hundreds of thousands of businesses it serves. Among recent offerings under Stephens’ purview, Altice recently launched its Business Hosted Voice product, a complete cloud-based communications solution offering advanced features. To newcomers in video content and/or distribution, Stephens passes along the advice of the late Steve Jobs: “Stay hungry. Stay foolish,” he says. “Become an expert in your field and maintain a constant state of curiosity, but remain ‘foolish’ enough to try anything.”

In what areas should the industry step up its efforts with regard to diversity and inclusion?
As an industry we have definitely made some movement forward here but there is still more to be done specifically at senior levels.

What’s your best advice to someone just entering the video content/distribution industry?
This is a very dynamic time for the video business. The traditional business models are shifting and it is very important to remain flexible. Steve Jobs once said, “Stay hungry. Stay foolish.” Become an expert in your field and maintain a constant state of curiosity, but remain “foolish” enough to try anything, think outside the box, and move past conventional thinking.

What’s been the most dramatic change in your sector of the business today vs. three years ago?
The convergence of different sectors through M&A within the media and telecom space – content networks, OTT providers, online retailers, distribution providers, wireless providers – the possibilities for change are endless in this space.
