A red-carpet event for a feature documentary about the life of Jane Goodall needed to be much like the woman herself: wild, sentimental, personal and even a little odd (in the best sense). With this in mind, National Geographic held the premiere at the iconic Hollywood Bowl, including a live-to-film concert of the Phillip Glass score performed by a 78-piece orchestra. Celebrities came out, but so did educators, conservationists, affiliate invitees and other industry players, forming a crowd of 15,000, believed to be the largest to ever attend a documentary premiere. With Jane Goodall herself in attendance and the documentary destined to be recognized as one of the best of the year, the grand event ended up being a worthy launch.
