A 30-year BET veteran, Lee is fiercely dedicated to producing quality programming that reflects the issues within the African American community. She’s responsible for hits like “Being Mary Jane,” “Real Husbands of Hollywood” and the miniseries “The Book of Negroes.” But it doesn’t end there. This past year the biopic miniseries “The New Edition Story” landed 29 million total viewers during its premiere week. Naturally, her career has brought forth accolades— most recently an award at the 2017 Grammy Salute to Industry Icons for her major contributions to American music and culture through BET. She is the first woman to receive this honor. Lee believes the industry has work to do on the diversity front at the C-suite level. Her solution entails supporting younger executives: “To see real change it’s critical to start that process early at the staff level by ensuring there is a three-to five-year pipeline for younger executives. I know there are a lot of young, talented and dynamic executives who only need the opportunity and exposure.”
