Having helped steer DirecTV to the success that primed the company for its $48.5 billion purchase by AT&T, hardball negotiator York is now steering its headline-making new streaming service DirecTV Now. The launch wasn’t without its share of glitches, but AT&T says the service brought in 200,000 in Q4 2016, helping offset losses of traditional pay customers for DirecTV and AT&T U-verse. York has overseen deals to bring an impressive cartel of programming to DirecTV Now, and he’s ensuring the company is growing its hand in originals, including Nick Jonas-starring MMA series “Kingdom” and a new Tim Ferris talk show-style series from Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Productions.
