“Companies should treat affordable child care like it’s an essential service. Paid family leave, adequate parental leave or subsidies for child care can have a significant long-term impact on equitable advancement.”

Who is a female athlete you admire and why? Donna De Varona: Donna De Varona was an Olympic gold medalist in swimming in 1960. And while many acknowledge she is a swimming prodigy, it is her work post her swimming career that is most admirable to me. She became the first female sports broadcaster on network television and her leadership and advocacy paved the way for future female athletes. She was Chairman of the groundbreaking 1999 FIFA Women’s Soccer World Cup, the first President and Chairman of the Women’s Sports Foundation, was appointed to Presidential Commissions under 5 different Presidents, and was a force in the passing of Title IX (federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities that receive federal funding, including sports). I had a chance encounter with Donna several years ago, and was honored to thank her for the impact she has made on me and so many other athletes and leaders today.
