HBO’s breakout series dramatizing the 1986 nuclear plant disaster was a stunner. Creator Craig Mazin and director Johan Renck crafted a story which almost revels in slowly building a sense of dread, culminating in not only a powerful drama, but a concise commentary on truth. It presents powerful people who get to dictate what is true, and people of no power, who are forced to live with actual truth. Between those two extremes lies a tragic, cautionary tale, told with power and craft.
