Through collaboration with various departments company-wide, Urssery is tasked with strategically scheduling original series and award shows, acquiring content, developing launch plans for BET’s properties and integrating linear programs with multi-platform initiatives. She’s dedicated to developing multi-platform strategies that will take BET Networks to the next level. “Aside from the role I played in the programming planning team that contributed to the ratings success that the network experienced this year, receiving this award is my biggest professional accomplishment,” she says. “What matters most is that through my accomplishments, other young black women can find confidence & inspiration in themselves.”
What has been your biggest professional accomplishment to date?
Aside from the role I played in the programming planning team that contributed to the ratings success that the network experienced this year, receiving this award is my biggest professional accomplishment. What matters most is that through my accomplishments, other young black women can find confidence & inspiration in themselves. This is a really proud moment for me, not because I get a cute trophy, but because I have received the gifts of HOPE and ENCOURAGEMENT for others.
What attracted you to this industry?
Growing up I loved two things, puzzles and storytelling. During the summer months at my grandparents’ house if I wasn’t finishing a puzzle with my grandmother, I was writing, directing and starring in some sort of play with my cousins. In school, I always chose creating scenes or reenactments for class assignments even when my teachers made it very clear that they preferred written book reports. As I got older, I found myself turning every homework assignment into an opportunity to use my Dad’s video camera. That’s when I realized that I loved storytelling. My sophomore year of college, I landed my first summer internship at BET Networks. A whole world opened up to me and the possibilities of being able to tell AND share stories on a level that I never imagined became real.
Best piece of professional advice you’ve received?
“Be Yourself.”
What is your favorite app these days?
Kitchen Stories is probably one of the best things to happen to me, my iPhone and my taste buds this year. This app is, hands down, the best sous chef I’ve ever had.

#BlackGirlMagic! It’s more than a hashtag or affirmation. It’s a celebration of the power, beauty and successes of ALL Black women.
What product or service can you not live without?
