Did you hear that? It’s the sound of lightning striking twice. The Breaking Bad pseudo-prequel Better Call Saul had no earthly right to be as good as it is, considering the track record of spin-off series. Perhaps we should not have been all this surprised. Genius creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are at the helm, after all, and the entire production drips quality from top to bottom. But it’s still crazy, isn’t it? After all, it IS still a spin off show. And it IS about yet another man’s descent from normalcy to moral depravity. It should feel repetitive, right? We should feel like we know where it’s all going, right? But it doesn’t, and we don’t, and we love it.
