O’Connor and her team had a lot to celebrate this year with Comcast finally signing on the dotted line for Univision Deportes. Then there was the World Cup, which scored record ratings and was a huge driver for authentication. O’Connor leads and directs all distribution sales and marketing efforts for Univision’s television networks and stations, with driving growth across all screens a top priority. Influencing and impacting beyond our everyday roles is how she defines success. “It’s easy to do what is expected and required as part of a job description, but when one goes beyond those boundaries and leverages her leadership to impact when it’s not a requirement, it can drive some of the best results and highest career satisfaction,” she says.

How can cable do better job at supporting the industry’s women?

It’s simple.  Women need to lead the effort to support women, especially the most senior in our industry.  That means making a real commitment to mentor, sponsor AND hire.  At Univision, we are committed to the advancement of women and formalized that pledge last year with the launch of the Women’s Leadership Council.  With that, management is accountable for recruiting and retaining high potential women in each division and identifying a career path that maximizes her performance.  When everyone in the company is empowered to perform at the their highest level we can have a material impact on the bottom line – making it good for everyone!

How do you define a successful career?

Influencing and impacting beyond our everyday roles is what defines success.  It’s easy to do what is expected and required as part of a job description, but when one goes beyond those boundaries and leverages her leadership to impact when it’s NOT a requirement, it can drive some of the best results and highest career satisfaction.

When not in the office, where are we most likely to find you?

Out of the office – not just literally, but figuratively.  After 20 years I have finally learned that in order to give my best self to both family and career I need to live in each moment both physically and mentally.  It’s not always achievable but certainly desirable.
