Tina Perry
Brokering deals to bring original programming and talent to OWN has helped the network grow. Perry oversees all of the network’s new scripted programming deals, including two TV movies, and will play a vital role in OWN’s expanding slate of e-Course business. She says digital distribution will only increase in importance in the cable world: “The industry has only scratched the surface on how digital connectivity will drive consumers’ relationship with content in the future.”
Who has been your strongest mentor, and why?
My mother, Marie, has long been my biggest champion, coach and critic. She comes from humble beginnings and has taught me that there are few limitations for people who work hard, think creatively and are respectful to others. She has undoubtedly been an inspiration throughout my career helping me stay focused, perceptive and thankful.
What qualities do you look for when making a new hire?
I tend to lean towards more innate qualities when evaluating a new hire. From a resume, you can typically get a good sense of someone’s professional background, experience and aptitude. However, it’s the intangibles such as how someone handles stress, manages uncertainty, displays tact and fosters relationships that I truly seek to get a feel for before making a formal job offer.
Name one emerging trend in cable we should all have our eyes on?
Two words: Digital distribution. The industry has only scratched the surface on how digital connectivity will drive consumers’ relationship with content in the future.
