A successful career to Mitchko-Beale is “when you pause, look at where you are, where you have been, where you want to go and think, ‘I am exactly where I am supposed to be.’ ” Prior to joining Cross MediaWorks, she was SVP of video infrastructure software at Cablevision. During her 15 years at Cablevision, she pioneered deployment of advanced advertising applications such as telescoping, addressable targeting and dynamic ad insertion. She also developed e-commerce sites supporting online distribution of modems and, recently, cloud-based DVR systems.

How do you define a successful career?

A successful career to me is when you pause, look at where you are, where you have been, where you want to go and think “I am exactly where I am supposed to be”.    By this I mean that you are  managing  your own career.  Make decisions based on what’s best for you at the time , keep your network alive and be kind along the way.  When you do these things everyday your career will benefit.

Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?

Sorry no secret here.  I don’t like to use the personal – professional life balance analogy because balance implies that as you put more effort into one side the other suffers.  The best advice I have here is to keep your priorities straight, be where you are and don’t be so hard on yourself.

When not in the office, where are we most likely to find you?

When I am not in the office I like to spend time with my husband David and my three children.  I also like to create mosaic tile artwork.  I make pieces to give to family and friends.  This activity lets me use my creative side and is a great change from my high tech day to day work.
