What’s the most important aspect of mentoring?
The most important aspect of mentoring is pulling people with you as you grow. In pulling them, sharing your career failures and missteps can help them learn from your mistakes (as well as your successes). Everyone above an entry-level job has had career advocates and mentors. It is critical to do for theirs what was done for you.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
Guilt is a wasted emotion and I try to not waste time on it. I am grateful for and enthusiastic about both my work and my home life. If the enthusiasm or gratitude wane in either area, I’ll spend some time to make an adjustment to re-calibrate.
Your favorite trick for unwinding?
An intense hot yoga class and a glass of wine, in that order.
