To complement its already extensive promotion for the original series “Mars,” National Geographic created a 12-minute digital short telling the background stories of two of the series’ characters. Released 3 weeks before the premiere, and distributed across all of National Geographic’s non-linear channels, it immediately grabbed viewer’s attention, garnering 800K views on YouTube in the first month alone.
