This industry vet defines success as “working in a purpose-driven culture where I can make an impact every day.” She certainly has done so in 2014, when she took her message all the way to the White House this year with Discovery Education’s “Of the People: Live From The White House,” one of three new Discovery Education initiatives aimed at amplifying the relevance of broadband. Coming up, she will lead global efforts around Discovery’s acquisition of U.K.-based education company Expresso.
What’s been the biggest story in cable this year?
The big headline is obviously the possibility of tremendous consolidation, which, if unchecked, could decrease the quality and diversity of content available to consumers.
How do you define a successful career?
Success means different things to different people. To me, having a successful career means working in a purpose-driven culture where I can make an impact everyday….being challenged by my work and supporting my team as best I can so that they can succeed.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
I don’t think there is such a thing as it changes all the time. I think we need to give ourselves a break and do our best to be present in the moment. Be clear about how you define success, both personally and professionally, and that will guide the decisions you make about how, where, and on what you spend your time.
