Lori Conkling
EVP, Strategy & Business Development
A regular honoree in this magazine, Conkling is responsible for developing actionable business strategies for NBCU’s new and existing digital businesses, driving innovation and monetizing cross-platform content. She has been instrumental in developing the business case for NBCU’s direct-to-consumer comedy SVOD offering Seeso, as well as identifying and executing on investment opportunities across the portfolio. She also understands the importance of getting out of her comfort zone, figuratively and physically. “Travel has always inspired me,” she says. “It is really important to understand cultures and economies around the world.” Conkling believes Shonda Rhimes’ programming best reflects the kind of women’s roles she likes to see. “Her characters are strong, complicated and fun to watch,” she says.
What advice would you give your 13-year-old self?
I would tell my 13-year-old self to always be present. We spend so much time planning for and working towards our future goals that we often forget to live in the moment.
Which current programming best reflects the kind of women’s roles you like to see and why?
Anything by Shonda Rhimes. Her characters are strong, complicated and fun to watch.
What’s been the biggest story in cable this year?
