Kirsty Ames
Programme Executive, Discovery Communications CEEMEA
Kirsty joined the fledging CEEMEA programming team just over 2 years ago and instantly doubled the department’s size in one of Discovery Comm’s most complex and diverse regions, encompassing 105 countries broadcasting up to 22 channels, including Eurosport, in over 40 languages. Her accomplishments are too numerous to list here, but there’s no doubt this rising star has big ambitions. “I would really love to run a channel one day,” she says. “I really like the idea of being involved in all aspects of what it takes to create and maintain a successful channel.”
What makes you most excited about this industry as you advance in your career?
I am really excited about the quality of television at the moment and the closing gaps between the level of production in the television and film industry. It is great to see so many feature film actors take to television roles as television series give audiences longer to develop a relationship with a character and their story. It is also fantastic to see reality television reach new heights and prove that some of the greatest characters with the most captivating stories are real people.
What would be your ultimate dream job?
I would really love to run a channel one day. I really like the idea of being involved in all aspects of what it takes to create and maintain a successful channel. I am intrigued by lots of areas of the TV industry I have yet to truly discover and I want to work towards broadening my experience so that I would have the skills to bring a channel brand to life that audiences love (new or existing).
What three things can’t you live without?
My TV, my passport and my family
