Kelsey Balance

Balance liaisons between various departments and production teams. And as only the second hire of the network, she has played an integral role in developing the brand and voice for Pivot, contributing to the development of company culture and working cross-functionally with different executives at various levels. “Boundaries are being eliminated left and right, and through that we are being challenged to be the most creative we can be,” she says. “I hope to live in this intersection between technology and entertainment as they continue to merge and push the industry forward.”

What makes you most excited about this industry as you advance in your career?

We are at such an exciting time in the Entertainment industry. Technology is pushing storytelling to a whole new level through providing opportunities for new platforms and new ways for the audience to interact with the content. Content has the ability to both be an intimate experience for the viewer, but also a global experience as it can be shared and watched around the world. Boundaries are being eliminated left and right, and through that we are being challenged to be the most creative we can be. I hope to live in this intersection between technology and entertainment as they continue to merge and push the industry forward.

What would be your ultimate dream job?

My goal is to work in a job that enables me to make the biggest impact on the world that I can make, and I am very lucky to be at company that makes this possible. I very strongly believe in the potential for media to connect and to inspire change in our world, in a way that can be fun and entertaining. I believe that the best way to make behavior change is through empathy, and a story well told is the best vehicle to encourage someone to be exposed and immersed into a world or character’s life that they may have not been familiar with or open to previously. Participant has perfected this theory and I am excited to see what tools technology inspires next that can help make this even more effective. I hope I can continue to use story to make impact in our world in my career.

Who has been your biggest mentor and why?

My brother has been my biggest mentor. We are only a year and a half a part, but he has been the best source of support, advice and insight along all steps in my career, and has been there for me in each big decision making moment. He encourages me to look at all sides of the equation and be the most thoughtful I can be for each decision I make. He also inspires me to work hard and challenges me to the best I can be. I’ve wanted to be like him since I could walk, and hope that we can be partners one day in a business venture.

What are three thing you can’t live without?
