John Harran
Under Harran’s strategic guidance, Turner’s TV Everywhere footprint is one of the largest in the industry. In the past year, Harran worked on the company’s first OTT deals with SlingTV and Playstation Vue. Looking ahead, Harran will work with partners in electronic sell-through, SVOD and OTT to set a cohesive strategy across Turner’s portfolio of platforms. Known for being in tune with the digital world, Harran stays on top of trends by embracing change and innovation. For go-to apps, Harran says he turns to “CNNgo, Bleacher Report and Spotify. News, sports and music tailored to my interests—what else do you need?”
What does the multiscreen experience look like in 3 years?
We will no longer be speaking of it as ‘multiscreen’. The partition between TV inputs and screens in the home will continue to melt away. Personalization will become habitual features for all forms of media . User behavior and resulting data between devices will inform new forms of monetization, audience experience and storytelling.
How do you keep yourself and your team engaged and informed on the changing multiscreen universe?
We have a tremendous amount of talent within the Turner organization. We embrace change. We’ve been on the front lines of innovation and have lead the industry in many ways. I feel fortunate that we’ve able to work so closely with our peers across the company. We’ve also ‘grown up’ with many of the market leaders in the Digital Space who have been and continue to be close partners.
What are your 3 go-to apps?
CNNgo, Bleacher Report and Spotify. News, Sports and Music tailored to my interests—what else do you need?
If you had to spend a month in the virtual reality, what would your environment be?
Summer tour with The Stones. In their prime. I’m thinking 78’ or early 80s.
