Giraldo oversees AMC Networks’ internal accounting and transactions as well as acquisition analysis and integration of new strategic initiatives. That puts him squarely in the center of the joint-venture agreement with BBC America, in which AMC Nets took operational control. The work done to integrate the deal’s complex accounting elements and ensure diligence is a source of pride for Giraldo. “It was a technically complicated arrangement that required significant input from a technical accounting perspective with many governance issues.”

What’s your biggest professional accomplishment in the past 12 months?

How can cable better support diversity?

I have participated in and know of many programs aimed at increasing diversity in our industry with a focus on younger people.  I believe these programs are necessary and have had success; however, there is a gap at the senior executive and c-suite level.  I believe there is a need for mentorship programs that help develop diverse managers into more senior executives.  As an industry, we need to further our efforts in not just introducing diversity to our organizations but developing mid-level managers into senior executives to truly have diverse input and representation.

How do you define success?

In terms of professional success, I don’t believe that the focus is on the individual.  While it may sound cliché, it is the team’s collaboration that will ultimately result in success for all.  A successful leader surrounds his/herself with outstanding people that are smart, strategic, personable and willing to work together for the good of the organization.  I am extremely fortunate to have a great team here at AMC Networks that truly cares about our company and delivers year after year.  The team has been tremendously successful in absorbing a massive amount of change during the last four years while facing an increasingly technical and regulatory environment.  Great people like those here at AMC Networks lead to great success.
