As CEO of Metrological, Ghijsen is always looking for new ways to improve app management and performance, utilizing new technologies such as open source. Under his leadership, Metrological has embraced open source approaches, helping operators easily deploy app frameworks on any device and streamlining operations and management. When it comes to the future of multiscreen, Ghijsen sees a streamlined and personalized experience. His prediction? “The mobile phone will be used for authentication, authorization, payments, a remote control, a game console and will personalize the experience like never before.”

What does the multiscreen experience look like in 3 years?

There’s no question that multiscreen will be a seamlessly integrated experience. Over the next 3 years standalone apps and interfaces will disappear, replaced with a single seamless experience. Apps will be front and center, on the same screen as live TV, offering app content that is related to what the consumer is watching on TV and reflective of local market and household-specific interests. The mobile phone will be used for authentication, authorization, payments, a remote control, a game console and will personalize the experience like never before. The multiscreen experience will also go beyond apps and will include integrations with IoT systems such as health care apps, etc.

How do you keep yourself and your team engaged and informed on the changing multiscreen universe?

Our team operates at the intersection of technical innovation and change. This change comes at an ever-increasing pace, which is exciting and gives us a lot of energy. Having the right framework and passion for technology makes the possibilities endless. We are a big contributor to the open source community and believe that everybody benefits from sharing knowledge.

To what degree will measurement factor into multiscreen monetization in 2016?

Measurement and data analytics are imperative for operators to drive monetization of multiscreen. Trying to monetize services without analyzing multiscreen usage is like driving a car with your eyes closed. At Metrological, data analytics is core functionality, which our customers view as valuable information that often leads to unexpected insights.
