Myers’ outgoing personality has proven to be quite an asset in his role overseeing operations of Cox’s Virginia region. He’s also flexible, open-minded and ready to embrace change—qualities that help him understand and meet customers’ needs. His people skills extend beyond the workplace, as he’s active in his local community and with charitable organizations, including the Urban League’s Young Professionals group. “They are our future leadership. I invest in them now so they pay the dividends forward in the future,” says Myers, who also supports the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia. “Some of the most rewarding work that we get the opportunity to do is the time, energy, and monies that we provide for the development of the youth and their education in our country.”

The technology that will most benefit cable over the next year is…
The Internet of Things and DOCIS 3.1. Internet of Things: Basically connecting a device with an on and off switch to the Internet or to each other. For example, an infant monitor that provide parents with real time information to help in the prevention SIDS on their smartphones, the ability to remotely manage and monitor your home’s temperature, the oven, washer & dryer to monitoring and feeding your house plants from your smart phone. Cox’s interest in DOCSIS 3.1 comes as the operator moves ahead on a plan to bring 1-Gig capabilities to its entire footprint.

Cox is initially offer residential 1-Gig service, under the “G1GABLAST” brand, using fiber-to-the-premises technology. DOCIS 3.1 is an industry game charger. DOCSIS 3.1 is aiming for capacities of up to 10 Gbps downstream and at least 1 Gbps upstream, the initial D3 .1 modems will support capacity configurations that will deliver about 5 Gbps/1Gbps when fully loaded.
