Travel Channel
Talk about good timing. Venkat joined Travel’s executive team in January 2008 as the network was popping with hit series from globe-traveling foodies like Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern. Travel experienced double-digit growth in ratings and web traffic from ’07 to ’09, and the network’s median age dropped from 50 to 45 in ’08. Into this space Venkat’s research on the influence of mood states on TV viewing choices led to a framework for Travel’s scheduling and played a critical role in increased viewer engagement. The CTAM Research Committee member also saw a need for short-form video about travel and helped launch Travel Channel Studios to fill that void.
