The adaptation of V.C. Andrews novel, featuring the twisted story of the Dollanganger kids being locked in an attic, was a hit for Lifetime. Thanks in part to strong performances by veteran actress Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn, as the children’s irresponsible mother and ruthless grandmother, and solid collaboration of Kayla Alpert’s script and Deborah Chow’s direction, the film is just as unsettling as the original book. Locking in 6.1 million total viewers in its world premiere, the series was ad-supported cable’s most-watched original movie in the demo since November 2012.
