Discovery Channel launched in Latin America 15 years ago, and Martínez has been instrumental from the beginning in growing the business and making Discovery one of the leading players in the region. The brand now touts a portfolio of 10 network brands across 34 countries throughout Latin America, reaching nearly 130mln cumulative subscribers, as well as two Hispanic brands distributed in the U.S. market. Most recently, Martinez oversaw the execution of the deal with DirecTV to launch Discovery HD Theater in more than 10 Latin American countries, making Discovery the leading provider of HD services in the region. Put simply, Martinez has been a big part of Discovery’s success in Latin America, and there’s little doubt he will continue to be invaluable as Discovery continues to make inroads.
