Dana Zimmer
In the last year Zimmer led more than 300 retrans deals and 600 WGN America cable network deals. The result? WGNA reached 65% of U.S. homes when it relaunched on basic cable and is now in 80% of its footprint. Not to mention a 75.5% year-over-year increase in affiliate distribution revenue. Growth for women in cable is “everywhere you look,” she says.
Where are the biggest growth areas for women in cable?
Everywhere you look is a growth area. Our industry is in a state of flux, so being open to new opportunities is the key to growth. We should aspire to think creatively and openly as the traditional landscape morphs.
What’s the most important aspect of mentoring?
Mentoring by way of example is the finest form of coaching that I know. The definition of success is unique and individual, but showing others your roadmap may help pave their way.
What/who inspires you at work? What/who inspires you outside the office?
My colleagues inspire me. It is with team spirit that we approach our business, in strategy, procedure and execution. At home, I am insanely inspired by the entrepreneurial drive of my two sisters, two working moms who have got it going on.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
Being in the moment is the new norm for me. While it’s imperative to multi-task, compartmentalizing the here and now helps me to get it done most productively, whether at home or work.
Your favorite trick for unwinding?
Spending time with family and friends is my favorite way to unwind. There’s nothing better than sand in your toes to make you forget about sweating the small stuff.
