Dana Zimmer
Distribution of Tribune’s broadcast and television content portfolio is always top of mind for Zimmer. A consummate relationship-builder, she has successfully negotiated all the company’s recent retransmission deals. She also continues to be a forceful advocate for the distribution platform provided by Tribune’s local station group and WGN America. And she has an eye to what she views as the biggest story of the year: “It’s all about the merger,” she says.
How can cable do better job at supporting the industry’s women?
Women should hold positions at all levels within the industry up to the Board of Directors. I’m a BIG advocate of hiring, mentoring and supporting women from the bottom up. As an industry, women need to support women in their climb.
What’s been the biggest story in cable this year?
It’s all about the Merger
How do you define a successful career?
I have been fortunate enough to work with amazing people who have done an enormous amount for the great companies they represent. Stepping out of my comfort zone has allowed me to continuously learn and grow. Being able to make my mark in an evolving industry while working with dynamic people is my idea of success.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
Staying healthy through exercise is how I maintain balance. Exercise clears my head and with that I become a better decision maker in the office and at home. Exercise is my key to perspective.
When not in the office, where are we most likely to find you?
It’s seasonal. In the summer you can’t get me off the beach. All other times I live in my car, driving my children to soccer, baseball, basketball, skating, birthday parties etc., fueled by a multitude of Starbucks runs. I’m a busy working mom who spends my down time involved in my kids’ activities…sound familiar?!
